Men on steroids seem to be the most common usage of steroids (even though the use of steroids by females is on the rise). The occurrence of men on steroids is common because steroids are actually very similar to male sex hormones. Men on steroids often like the fact that steroids can help improve performance and enhance appearance. Men on steroids can take their steroids via injection, oral pills or through a topical cream.

Men on steroids may experience many negative side effects. There are side effects for men on steroids that can be dangerous to the health. These include kidney and liver damage, risks for cardiovascular disease, elevated blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Men on steroids also increase their risks for certain cancers. Men on steroids might also experience gynocomastia due to the estrogen in the steroids. Gynocomastia is the appearance of female sex traits in men such as irreversible breast enlargement. This effect of men on steroids can be aggravated by the consumption of alcohol while on steroids because the liver isn't able to function to its full capacity to prevent female sex hormones from entering the body.

Other effects for men on steroids include infertility (usually a temporary condition) and testicular atrophy. This happens because the body is programmed to keep the levels of testosterone in the blood at a balanced level. When the body of men on steroids detects the elevated levels of steroids, the body stops making testosterone. Depending on the duration and doses of the steroids use, these conditions can return back to normal as long as there hasn't been too much damage. Occasionally, when men on steroids have taken too many for too long the pituitary gland is damaged and men on steroids end up with permanent sterility or sexual dysfunction.
